Michael Kerr: Another Reason I Refuse To Fly Coach On American Airlines

Not a week goes by that you don't read about air travel insanity.

Costly and always limited parking at CDIA, long lines where airlines have replaced helpful counter staff with slow dimwitted computers, not to mention the TSA nightmare. Add to that baggage fees, computer outages and a coach cabin filled with, low life scum, screaming kids, breast feeding mothers and flight crew Nazis.

No wonder why private jets are no longer for just the ultra rich.

And along comes Michael Kerr:

From the Charlotte Observer - Three Jack Daniel’s on an hour-long flight to Charlotte will put Michael Kerr in federal court Wednesday, accused of striking several flight attendants before he was tackled by the pilots.

Kerr, 25, was a passenger Thursday night on an American Airlines flight from Lexington, Ky., to Charlotte.

According to an FBI affidavit, Kerr was served three whiskeys after takeoff – it’s not clear if he had been drinking before boarding.

As the plane taxied to a gate at Charlotte Douglas International, Kerr ignored flight crew orders and got out of his seat, the affidavit says.

When an attendant interceded, Kerr threatened to break her jaw. Matters deteriorated from there. Kerr, appearing intoxicated, walked quickly to the front of the plane and cursed at the flight crew.

He kicked one attendant in the leg and shoved another to the floor of the plane, the affidavit says. The pilot and co-pilot, listed only by their initials in the document, got Kerr on the ground and used a seat belt strap to restrain his legs and keep him from kicking.

When Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrived, Kerr was handcuffed but kept kicking, requiring other police officers to be called to the scene before he could be removed from the plane.

Kerr faces charges of being intoxicated and disruptive, assault on a female, communicating threats and interfering with the duties of a flight crew or attendant.

Cedar Update: Kerr remains in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sherriff as a Federal prisoner being held without bond, this morning according to the somewhat timely MCSO website. So there might be more to this than just a probationary sentence over the horizon for the Lexington Kentucky resident.

Kerr a restaurant worker in Lexington Kentucky has a court date next week to determine if he should remain free pending his trial which could take more than a year. Kerr has been banned from using air travel although that ban may be lifted at a judges discretion.

The 25-year-old Kentucky man accused of attacking members of the flight crew on a Charlotte-bound plane is banned from flying as he awaits trial, a judge ruled Monday.
Michael Kerr appeared in U.S. District Court on charges of being intoxicated and disruptive, assault on a female, communicating threats and interfering with the duties of a flight crew or attendant. He was released on $25,000 bond, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
A video shows the pilot taking Kerr to the floor of the plane saying: “You don’t put your hands on my flight attendant!”
Kerr then warns the pilot that he’ll regret the move when the incident is captured on Facebook.

The court ordered that Kerr cannot fly on commercial airlines and must not make contact with the flight attendant he attacked.

Cedar Update: Local Media report last week that Kerr had been release and travel to Ohio to get engaged to his long time boyfriend. The report was bogus. Kerr remained in custody of the MCSO until Monday when he was release of $25,000.00 bond and is now banned from all airlines.
